Friday Club is our fun and games night. It is membeship only, from 6.30 to 7.45pm on Fridays.
We have two churches in the parish:
St John's in Whittle and Clayton Brook Community Church. We have our Curate Revd Tom Donaghey, three licensed Lay Readers and three lay readers in training, all of whom divide their time between both churches. This means that each church holds varied communion services and morning worship services, descriptions of which are given below.
St Johns
Every Sunday 9am Holy Communion:
This is a more formal Communion service.
The 11am service lasts about an hour and follows a different format each week-
On the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sunday of the month is Family Worship, which is a modern morning service led by Clergy or Lay Readers. During this service the children leave for their own teaching in Junior Church, returning near the end of the service.
The 4th Sunday is a Communion service . Again the children leave for Junior Church returning in time to come to the Lord's table with their parents for communion or a blessing.
We have a small worship group who sing and play modern hymns and songs for all the 11am services. The words are projected onto a screen at the front of the church. People are encouraged to come early to the 11am service, to enjoy coffee/tea and to meet the people who have attended the 9am service
Clayton Brook
Service each Sunday at 10.30am usually finishing by 12 noon.On the 1st, 4th and 5th Sunday we have a service of morning worship led by clergy or lay people. The 2nd Sunday on the month is an "All age" service with the young people present throughout the service. The 3rd Sunday of the month we have a communion service. The services have a contemporary feel with the words of the liturgy and songs projected onto a screen at the front of the church. The music is led by a worship band. We have coffee/tea and biscuits at the end of each service and encourage people to stay behind for a chat.
Sunday groups for Under 18's
We have two groups each Sunday morning, and all are made very welcome.
Kings Kids: (for Primary age boys and girls)
Join in with our group of boys and girls for a great time praising and learning all about our wonderful God!
Kings Kids meets upstairs at 10.30am on Sunday, and sometimes we go downstairs and tell the adults what we have learned, and we join in with communion services too.
G4G: (for Secondary ages/teenagers)
This group also meets at 10.30am on Sunday. The name stands for 'Gifted for God' because we believe that God gives all of us jobs to do, and the abilities to do them. We get lots of discussion and we always learn together.
